1. Is the mechanic certified to work on your vehicle? This is probably the most important thing to look for. Be sure to read the warranty so you know what to do if you need to use it.
3. Will the mechanic bill your insurance or do you need to pay up front? Peek your head in the service area to make sure other vehicles are being treated the way you’d like yours to be. Also, check out public spaces like showrooms and waiting areas. There should be somewhere to sit comfortably with your family while waiting to pick up a vehicle. If these areas are clean and well-maintained it’s a sign that the staff takes pride in their work. The better repair shops keep coffee, water, and even light snacks available to make long waits easier.
7. Can the counter staff answer your questions, or will they get a mechanic if they can’t? Though some repair shops let their technicians rotate through counter duty, most have a receptionist or salesperson out front.
