Do you remember when you were a Junior in High School? I sure do. I had just gotten my first car, a silver Jeep Liberty, and I started working at a clothing store to save money for college. After school I spent my time hanging out with friends at the mall, trying to determine what party I was going to go to on the weekend. My biggest struggles were getting out of bed in the morning to make it to school on time, determining which college I was going to attend, and how I could sneak into my mom’s room to borrow clothes, makeup, shoes, and jewelry. Life was simple, and it sure was fun!
For some, being a high school student was much more challenging. They may have had to work one or two jobs after school to save for their upcoming college tuition. They may have had to babysit their younger siblings or cook dinner for their families. They may have even been bullied and didn’t enjoy going to school at all. We all are dealt quite different cards in this life, and Cassie Hines was dealt a hand many of us at that age wouldn’t have thought twice about being a possibility.
A week after her Spring Break vacation she got the results back from a test on an annoying pain that was on her left side. The doctors found a large tumor on her kidney that had cancer. She was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma.
