2020 Chevy Silverado Powertrain Options Include New Turbo-Diesel

The Chevy Silverado powertrain is getting new options for 2020, including an available Duramax inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The all-new 2020 Silverado promises optimal performance thanks to this powertrain, with class-leading torque and horsepower.* Plus, it’s the first time an inline six-cylinder turbo has been offered on a full-size Chevy truck.

According to Chevrolet, the new Duramax engine option will be priced the same as the 6.2-liter V8 engine, but you’ll get morel power and fuel economy. Available on the LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trims, the new Duramax option will be rated at an SAE-certified 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Per Chevy, it will deliver 95 percent of peak torque at 1,250 rpm.

Nicola Menarini, director for Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution, comments on the refined image the new turbo-diesel engine will offer fans. “With advanced technologies that draw on global diesel expertise, it’s a no-compromise choice for those who want the capability and driving range of a diesel in a light-duty truck.”

The new engine option will be paired with a 10L80 10-speed transmission on the 2020 Chevy Silverado. Other features related to performance include an exhaust brake, a water charge air cooler, a low-pressure EGR, and an electronically variable intake manifold.
