The Camaro: Fun & Function Combined

Technology is always pushing boundaries to create something new. Sometimes these inventions are meant to make our lives easier or safer. Other times they are just plain fun. Every now and then, technology gives us something that does both. The infotainment and communications technology suite Chevy installed in the Camaro SS is one of these inspired feats of engineering.

There are a ton of things the Camaro can do. The OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot will connect up to seven devices without damaging internet speeds. That’s seven people who can be checking their mail while you drive home from a work retreat. The hotspot works whenever the engine is on, so there is zero worry about it running out of battery.

The Camaro SS boasts an 8 inch touchscreen display which is used to access the MyLink system and, through it, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These apps let you control your phone using voice commands. Load playlists from your music library, open apps like Pandora or 8 Tracks, and even get directions without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. If you’re an Apple user, Siri will read you texts over your vehicle’s speaker system and even take dictation for replies.

The feature that seems to excite the most people is arguably the simplest. This Camaro SS is outfitted with an inductive wireless charging mat for your smartphone. Inductive charging generates an electromagnetic field and uses it to transfer energy- namely into your phone. You can just set it on the centrally-located mat and drive, no plugs or cords needed.
